In Brief
What does it mean?
This concept of Poetic Climatology found meaningful expression within the Vishwa Nishane Par Hai ©️ Climate Crisis Awareness Campaign, founded in 2004 by Dr. Nikhil Kant - a climate practitioner and poetic climatologist who has consistently worked to bridge the gap between scientific awareness and societal sensitivity. Through his poems, recitals, reflections, and public engagements, he has encouraged individuals to adopt climate-positive practices not through preaching, prescribing or proposing but through empathy, self-realization, and cultural connection.
The genesis of Poetic Climatology within the VNPH Campaign emerged from the understanding that climate crisis is not only an environmental or scientific issue- it is also a deeply emotional, social, and civilizational concern. While facts and reports inform the intellect, poetry and creative expression often touch the conscience, inspire dialogue, and motivate action. Through this approach, VNPH has sought to awaken climate consciousness among people from all walks of life, including students, educators, professionals, artists, policymakers, and communities.
Globally, creative climate communication has increasingly become an important medium for environmental awareness. Across different cultures and countries, poets, artists, filmmakers, musicians, and storytellers have used art to interpret ecological challenges, climate anxieties, and hopes for a sustainable future. Poetic Climatology resonates with this evolving global movement that recognizes the role of creativity in inspiring behavioural change, emotional resilience, and collective responsibility toward the planet.
Locally, Poetic Climatology gains unique relevance by connecting climate awareness with regional languages, cultural expressions, folk traditions, personal experiences, and everyday sustainable practices. Through Hindi poetry, public recitals, awareness events, digital media, and community engagement initiatives, VNPH has attempted to make climate discourse more accessible and emotionally meaningful for ordinary citizens. It encourages individuals to see themselves not merely as observers of climate crisis, but as active participants in shaping a more sustainable future.
Over the years, this approach has evolved into more than a literary expression- it has become a participatory awareness movement that blends creativity with responsibility, reflection with action, and emotion with environmental consciousness.
Because sometimes, a poem can inspire the change that statistics alone cannot.
